About the Role

As the Year 2 Class Teacher , you will take full responsibility for a Year 2 class, delivering engaging and structured lessons in line with the National Curriculum. You will support pupils as they develop independence, resilience, and confidence as learners, while also preparing them for end-of-Key-Stage assessments in a calm and developmentally appropriate way.

You will plan creative and inclusive lessons that meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEND and EAL. A strong emphasis is placed on phonics, early reading, writing development, and number fluency. You will work closely with teaching assistants, KS1 colleagues, and senior leaders to monitor progress and provide targeted support where needed.

This role would suit an experienced KS1 teacher or a confident Early Career Teacher (ECT) with strong phonics and early literacy experience. ECTs will benefit from a structured induction programme and ongoing mentoring.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities as a Year 2 Teacher will include:

• Planning, delivering, and evaluating high-quality lessons across the Year 2 curriculum
• Teaching phonics, early reading, writing, spelling, and mathematics effectively
• Preparing pupils for end-of-Key-Stage assessments in a supportive manner
• Creating a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment
• Assessing, tracking, and monitoring pupil progress
• Differentiating learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including SEND and EAL
• Promoting positive behaviour and strong learning habits
• Supporting pupils’ social, emotional, and personal development
• Working collaboratively with teaching assistants and KS1 colleagues
• Building strong relationships with parents and carers
• Contributing to staff meetings, planning sessions, and CPD
• Upholding safeguarding, health, and safety procedures at all times

The Ideal Candidate

The school is seeking a Year 2 Teacher who demonstrates:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Experience teaching in Key Stage 1
• Strong knowledge of the Year 2 curriculum and phonics
• Understanding of KS1 assessment expectations
• High expectations for pupil progress and behaviour
• Excellent classroom management and organisation
• A nurturing, consistent, and reflective approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills

Desirable but not essential:

• Experience with KS1 SATs
• Experience working in a diverse or urban school setting
