As a Senior Mental Health Practitioner, you will play a key role in assessing, supporting, and managing patients with complex mental health conditions. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, providing specialist mental health assessments, care planning, and risk management. Key Responsibilities for the Senior Mental Health Practitioner Job in Birmingham
- Conduct specialist mental health assessments and interventions for individuals experiencing acute and long-term mental health conditions.
- Develop and implement personalised care plans tailored to individual patient needs.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and community support teams.
- Provide crisis intervention and risk assessments to ensure patient safety.
- Offer guidance, supervision, and mentorship to junior mental health practitioners and support staff.
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and policy implementation.
- Liaise with external agencies, including GPs, hospitals, and community organisations, to ensure integrated patient care.
- Ensure compliance with NICE guidelines, safeguarding policies, and mental health legislation.
Requirements for the Senior Mental Health Practitioner Job in Birmingham
- Professional registration with a relevant regulatory body (NMC, HCPC, or Social Work England).
- Qualification in Mental Health Nursing (RMN), Occupational Therapy, Social Work, or equivalent.
- Experience working in adult or child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS).
- Strong knowledge of mental health conditions, crisis intervention, and recovery-focused care.
- Ability to conduct risk assessments, safety planning, and psychological interventions.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
- Understanding of Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree or Diploma in Mental Health Nursing, Social Work, or Occupational Therapy.
- Additional training in CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care, or risk assessment (desirable).
- Experience working within NHS, private mental health services, or community care settings.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a mental health setting.
