Assistant Associate Head for PSHE and Careers

King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls
Birmingham

About the Role

We are now seeking to appoint a dynamic and forward‑thinking teacher to provide exceptional strategic vision and operational efficiency in relation to our PSHE and Careers provision at King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls. The KEVIHS experience is built upon the twin pillars of scholarship and character education and this role encompasses both.

This role also comes with a position on the Schools Extended Leadership Team and is an ideal springboard to an appointment as an Assistant Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher in the next two years. It also affords the successful candidate the agency to plan and implement initiatives linked to curriculum and personal development. The post is available due to the promotion of the current incumbent.

Outstanding PSHE leadership is rooted in a strong moral and safeguarding imperative. The successful candidate will ensure our provision aligns clearly with the school’s values, safeguarding priorities, and wider curriculum intent. PSHE forms an integral part of our curriculum at KEVIHS across all key stages. The post holder will have responsibility for developing a spiral curriculum which builds knowledge, skills and personal literacy from Year 7 to Year 13. In addition, the lead for PSHE will ensure compliance with statutory requirements (Relationships, Sex, and Health Education).

As the designated Careers Lead in the School, you be required to provide a model for careers which is strategic, visible, inclusive, and measurable, with a relentless focus on improving pupils’ life chances. Our careers provision at KEVIHS is designed to enhance social mobility, the raising of aspirations and the closing of disadvantage gaps. Our programme is planned, not reactive and incorporates curriculum learning, personal guidance, and real-world experiences

We are committed to excellent teaching and learning in an environment where students relish the opportunities, they are given to master the subjects they are studying, are willing to take risks and enjoy the intellectual challenges this brings. We develop staff and students who have the desire and courage, combined with the emotional, intellectual and practical capacities to change the world in ways that might be great or small but are always for the better. We are a happy and caring school which values and takes pride in diversity and celebrates individuality.
