Join LMH Accountants Ltd and gain hands-on experience in all aspects of accountancy. Duties include bookkeeping, accounts preparation, VAT returns, tax work, reconciliations, and general office admin. You will use finance software, respond to queries, and support the team while studying towards your Assistant Accountant apprenticeship.

Wage

£14,560 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices

Paid holiday: 20 days annual leave + statutory bank holidays + plus occasional days

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Prepare accounts for a range of clients, gaining hands-on experience in financial reporting and year-end account preparation
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of VAT returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with current regulations.
  • Support the completion of personal and corporation tax work, including calculations, documentation, and submissions
  • Carry out bookkeeping tasks such as recording financial transactions, reconciling accounts, and maintaining accurate client records
  • Provide general office and administrative support, including managing correspondence, organising files, and assisting with day-to-day business operations
  • Work closely with experienced professionals to develop practical accounting knowledge and build valuable skills for a long-term career in finance and accountancy

What you'll learn

Course contents

  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule

  • Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship Standard
  • Training is delivered by Birmingham Metropolitan College in partnership with Mindful Education, combining online learning with face-to-face classroom lessons through a blended delivery model
  • At least 20% of your working hours will be dedicated to training or study

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • Bookkeeping/Accounting Level 1/Level 2 (grade Grade C/4 or above)
  • Maths (grade 8/A or above)

GCSE or equivalent in:

English (grade 4 or above)

Desirable qualifications

A Level in:

Maths (grade A - C)
