Accounts Assistant
Accounts Assistant - 12 month fixed term contract
We are looking for an Accounts Assistant to join our Finance team, supporting day-to-day transactional finance activities. This is a junior role suited to someone with some prior experience in a professional services environment, who is keen to develop a broad grounding across credit control, purchase ledger, and general accounting processes.
The role will involve a high volume of routine processing alongside regular interaction with internal stakeholders and external suppliers and clients.
This role offers the opportunity to gain exposure across multiple areas of finance within a professional services organisation, with scope to develop technical skills.
The role is based in our Birmingham city centre office with a hybrid workstyle and is a fixed-term contract for a period of 12 months.

What does the role entail?
Credit Control
Assist with the credit control process, including: Chasing overdue debts via email and phone: Monitoring aged debt and escalating issues where appropriate; Maintaining accurate customer account records
Supporting the team with cash allocation and customer query resolution
Building effective working relationships with internal teams to resolve billing and payment issues
Purchase Ledger
Processing supplier invoices in a timely and accurate manner
Resolving invoice and supplier queries
Preparing supplier payment runs for review and approval
Maintaining supplier account details and reconciliations
General Accounting & Processing
Posting journals and other routine accounting entries
Assisting with bank reconciliations and cash postings
Supporting month-end processes as required
Maintaining strong data accuracy and audit trails across all activities
Supporting ad hoc finance tasks and process improvements as the role develops
What we’re looking for?
Previous experience in an accounts or finance role, ideally within a professional services or similar environment
Exposure to credit control and/or purchase ledger activities
Good attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
Confident using Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
Strong organisational skills and ability to manage routine tasks effectively
Good communication skills, with a professional approach when dealing with stakeholders
Proactive and willing to learn
Reliable and able to work to deadlines
Comfortable with repetitive processing tasks while maintaining accuracy
Team-oriented with a positive, “can-do” attitude
