Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Birmingham or Hereford (Hybrid / Agile Working)
Salary: £45,000 + Company Car + Benefits Why this role? This is a genuinely flexible engineering role offering an agile working model. You will join a specialist business delivering critical pipework systems across fire protection and industrial water projects, with involvement across the full lifecycle from concept through to installation.

Working closely with commercial and delivery teams, you will play a key role in ensuring designs translate effectively into real-world applications. What you’ll be doing
- Designing pipework systems, layouts, and technical drawings
- Supporting projects from tender through to detailed design (DfM)
- Interpreting P&IDs, site data, and client requirements
- Collaborating with engineers, PMs, and site teams
- Contributing to cost-effective design solutions
- Ensuring designs are compliant and buildable
- Experience in pipework design
- Background in industries such as:
fire protection, water/wastewater, HVAC, or industrial process - CAD experience (AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar)
- Understanding of design for manufacture and installation
- Strong practical and problem-solving mindset
- Knowledge of LPCB, BS EN 12845, NFPA, or ACOP L8
- Experience with sprinkler or industrial pipework systems
- Exposure to full project lifecycle
