Lead Teacher of Biology Opportunity in Birmingham!
An excellent 11–18 secondary school in Birmingham is seeking a Lead Teacher of Biology to join their high-performing Science Department from January 2026. This is a full-time, permanent leadership role that offers the opportunity to help shape Biology teaching across the school and lead an ambitious, forward-thinking team.
About the Role
The successful candidate will teach Biology from KS3 through to KS5, inspiring curiosity and critical thinking while taking a strategic lead in curriculum planning, assessment, and teaching innovation within the subject. They will oversee the delivery of high-quality lessons that foster engagement, enquiry, and academic excellence.
As Lead Teacher of Biology, they will play a pivotal role in mentoring colleagues, driving standards of teaching and learning, and supporting the continued success of the Science Department. The school’s leadership team is committed to enabling subject leaders to develop their specialism and contribute to the wider academic direction of the school.
The role also includes responsibility for:
Developing and implementing schemes of work and assessment strategies aligned with the latest specifications.
Leading professional development sessions for staff and ECTs.
Monitoring progress data and ensuring effective intervention strategies.
Organising enrichment opportunities such as STEM clubs, biology fieldwork, and national competitions .
Supporting students preparing for GCSE and A-Level Biology , ensuring excellent outcomes.

Experience and Qualifications
Degree in Biology or a closely related discipline.
QTS/PGCE and significant experience teaching Biology up to A-Level.

A passion for fostering scientific curiosity and excellence in others.
