SEN Teaching Assistant
- Location: Northfield, Birmingham- Weekly Pay: £500 - £525
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm (Term Time Only)

- Contract: Long-Term | Temp-to-Perm Long Term Futures is seeking a caring, patient, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Northfield from September 2026. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils across Early Years and Key Stage One with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many pupils use alternative communication methods, including PECS, Makaton, visual timetables, communication boards, and other communication aids. Experience supporting non-verbal or minimally verbal children would be highly advantageous. You will be joining a supportive and inclusive team committed to helping every child thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The position is offered on a long-term basis, with the opportunity to secure a permanent contract for the right candidate.
- Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (or equivalent), or a relevant degree.
- Previous experience working within a school, nursery, preschool, or similar educational setting.
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
- Confidence supporting children on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
- Experience using alternative communication methods such as PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), Makaton, communication boards, visual timetables, and now-and-next boards.
- Ability to support non-verbal and minimally verbal pupils to communicate effectively and engage in learning.
- Strong communication, patience, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to adapt learning activities to meet individual pupil needs.
- Understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
- Awareness of sensory regulation techniques, therapeutic support strategies, and positive behaviour support approaches.
- Understanding of communication-friendly classroom practices and strategies to support pupils with speech, language, and communication difficulties.
- Knowledge of autism-friendly approaches, sensory processing needs, and methods for promoting pupil independence and social interaction.
- Located in Northfield, Birmingham.
