Toolmaker (Press Tooling)
Location: Birmingham
Salary: Up to £19.50 per hour
Hours: 39 hours per week, Monday to Thursday
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established and reputable manufacturing business with a fully equipped, modern toolroom. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Toolmaker to join a stable and supportive team environment, working a highly desirable 4-day week. This role is ideal for a skilled individual who takes pride in precision engineering and enjoys working on a variety of press tooling projects within a busy domestic toolroom. Key Responsibilities
- Repair, maintain, and modify existing press tooling to a high standard
- Manufacture and develop small tools, jigs, and fixtures (where required)
- Carry out fault finding and problem-solving on tooling issues
- Work on a range of tooling including single action, progression, and transfer tools
- Read and interpret 2D engineering drawings, ensuring adherence to tight tolerances
- Operate a variety of toolroom machinery including XYZ milling machines, surface grinders (540), cylindrical grinders, and lathes
- Work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Ensure all work is completed efficiently, safely, and to high quality standards
- Apprentice-trained Toolmaker with a minimum of 10 years’ post-qualification experience
- Strong background in metal pressings and press tooling
- Proven experience working with single action, progression, and transfer tools
- Confident fault-finding and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work from engineering drawings with precision and accuracy
- Self-motivated with the ability to use own initiative
- Must have own basic tools and toolbox (some equipment provided on-site)
- Stable work history with references available
- Competitive pay rate up to £19.50 per hour
