Learning Support Assistant - SEMH
Job Title: Learning Support Assistant- Social and Emotional Mental Health / Behavioural needs Location: Birmingham Salary Scale: £90 - 95 a day Contract type: Day to Day Cover, Short and Long Term - starting ASAP We are currently seeking a Learning Support Assistant with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs, to join our specialist SEMH/SLD provision in Birmingham. You will have the opportunity to use restorative practices to support our students in their social and emotional development. We believe that empathy is of the utmost importance in working with young people, and we encourage our staff to build strong relationships with our students from the very beginning. In your role as a Teaching Assistant, you will focus on building these relationships in the first weeks, while also displaying your academic potential and social maturity. At our SEMH/SLD provision, we believe that every student has the potential to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances. About the role: Providing 1:1 behaviour support to pupils with challenging behaviour and SEN requirements including SEMH, SLD and ADHD. Implementing appropriate structures to manage challenging behaviour, always being pro-active and engaging. Acting like a positive role model and providing nurture support Providing numeracy and literacy booster sessions out of the classroom De-escalating heightened and volatile situations. You will be supporting across Primary ages between 11 to 19 years old. Personal care is mandatory within this school. Resilience and adaptability to deal with a variety of emotional and behavioural challenges. Supporting young people with SEMH needs in a school, alternative provision, youth work, or care setting Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent manner Building positive, trusting relationships with vulnerable adolescents Supporting students with: Anxiety and depression ADHD and ASD Trauma-related behaviours Attachment difficulties Low self-esteem and emotional dysregulation Skills & Qualities: Strong behaviour management skills Excellent communication and active listening skills Resilience, patience, and emotional intelligence Ability to remain calm under pressure Understanding of safeguarding procedures Ability to implement behaviour support plans and risk assessments The ideal candidate should have experience working with challenging behaviour in an education or support setting with children. Candidates who have personal experience working with challenging behaviour, mental health, anxiety, SLD, PMLD and Autism are encouraged to apply. Requirements: Enhanced DBS Child and Adult Check – Must be on the update service. (We can assist you with a DBS if you do not have one) 2x References are a must in order to clear your file with GSL.
