Geography Teacher - Leading Independent School, Birmingham
A highly regarded independent school in Birmingham is seeking an accomplished and engaging Teacher of Geography to join its thriving Humanities faculty. This is an excellent opportunity to teach Geography in a setting where academic rigour, intellectual curiosity and pastoral care are given equal priority.
Geography is a popular and well-respected subject within the school, with strong uptake at GCSE and A-Level and a curriculum designed to challenge, stretch and inspire.
The Role
You will teach Geography across KS3–KS5 , delivering a curriculum that balances physical and human geography with contemporary global issues. Lessons encourage enquiry, debate and independent thinking, supported by clear academic expectations and strong examination preparation.
At Sixth Form level, students are confident, articulate and highly motivated. They engage readily with complex concepts such as climate systems, geopolitics and development, and respond well to challenge.
Teachers are trusted professionals and given genuine autonomy over lesson delivery within a coherent departmental framework.
The Geography Department
The Geography department is well established, collaborative and academically ambitious. Schemes of work are carefully sequenced but flexible, allowing teachers to bring their own expertise and interests into the classroom.
Fieldwork is an important part of the curriculum and is thoughtfully planned, with both local and residential studies embedded at appropriate stages. These trips are well supported and valued as an integral part of learning, not an add-on.
The department works closely with other Humanities subjects, particularly History and Economics, to reinforce analytical writing and evaluative thinking.
The School
This co-educational independent school educates pupils aged 11–18 and has an excellent reputation for academic outcomes and university progression. Class sizes are small, behaviour is exemplary, and relationships between staff and pupils are respectful and purposeful.
The school campus blends traditional buildings with modern teaching spaces, providing a calm and professional working environment. Staff retention is strong, and the culture is collegiate and supportive.
Professional Life & Benefits
Staff benefit from:
Competitive independent-school salary
Small class sizes and highly engaged pupils
Free lunch during term time and on-site parking
Access to high-quality CPD and subject development
Opportunities to contribute to wider academic life if desired
A respectful, professional staff culture with low turnover
Who This Role Would Suit
This role would suit:
An experienced Geography teacher
A confident ECT seeking an academically ambitious setting
A teacher who enjoys teaching motivated, able pupils
A professional who values autonomy within a supportive department
This is a superb opportunity to teach Geography in an independent school that values academic depth, professional trust and staff wellbeing.
