YOS Officer
2 Month Contract With A Local Authority
Job Purpose:
To deliver a high-quality service that meets the individual needs of children and young people, their families, and caregivers to reduce offending and prevent reoffending. The role involves working collaboratively across the Youth Justice Service, the wider organisation, and partner agencies to ensure access to effective interventions that support children in building a positive, pro-social identity and recovering from trauma.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess, plan, and deliver tailored interventions to children and young people involved in the youth justice system
- Work directly with children, families, and caregivers to address factors contributing to offending behaviour
- Manage a caseload, ensuring all work is completed in line with statutory requirements and timescales
- Contribute to the development and implementation of intervention plans aimed at reducing reoffending
- Work in partnership with internal teams and external agencies to ensure coordinated and effective support
- Support children and young people to access appropriate services, including education, health, and wellbeing support
- Promote a trauma-informed and child-centred approach in all aspects of work
- Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings, reviews, and court processes as required
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records and reports
Requirements:
- Experience of working with children and young people, preferably within a youth justice, social care, or related setting
- Understanding of factors contributing to youth offending and approaches to reducing reoffending
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection practices
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with young people and families
- Ability to manage a varied caseload and work to deadlines
- Experience of multi-agency working and partnership collaboration
- Commitment to a trauma-informed and restorative approach
- Willingness to undertake relevant training and professional development
Additional Information:
- Location: Birmingham
- Working Hours: 37 hours per week
- Payment: Bi-weekly
