Leading Practitioner of English

Lordswood Boys' School
Birmingham

About the role

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional Leading Practitioner of English who can model the very best classroom practice, strengthen teaching and learning across the department and make a visible contribution to wider school improvement.

This role is designed for a highly skilled teacher who thrives on refining pedagogy, coaching others and helping to raise the quality of practice through credibility, influence and precision. English sits at the heart of our improvement journey because literacy builds success, and this role offers the chance to lead through practice in one of the most important areas of the school.

The successful candidate will combine outstanding classroom performance with the ability to support colleagues thoughtfully and effectively. They will help shape teaching, curriculum delivery, assessment and intervention, while also contributing to a culture in which excellent practice is identified, shared and sustained.

This is a particularly attractive opportunity for a colleague who wants to remain deeply rooted in the craft of teaching while taking on a broader leadership contribution. It offers real influence without losing sight of what matters most: excellent lessons, strong relationships and meaningful impact on pupils.

What we are looking for

  • A highly accomplished English specialist with consistently strong classroom practice and the credibility to influence others through expertise.

  • Someone who can model and articulate excellent teaching, helping colleagues refine planning, explanation, questioning, feedback and classroom routines.

  • A professional who understands the importance of literacy, scholarship and ambitious curriculum delivery in transforming life chances.

  • A colleague able to use evidence, observation and evaluation intelligently to improve practice and secure better outcomes for pupils.

  • Someone who is reflective, disciplined and collaborative, with the confidence to challenge and support colleagues in equal measure.

  • A practitioner who wants to play a visible role in strengthening teaching and learning across English and the wider school.

Why join Lordswood Boys' School and Central Academies Trust?

  • A culture of high expectation, strong pastoral care and genuine teamwork.

  • Professional development, coaching and career progression within Lordswood Boys' School and Central Academies Trust.

  • The chance to shape English provision in a school that is confident, improving and ambitious for further growth.

  • Trust-wide collaboration built around Every Student Matters, Quality Learning and Effective Partnerships.

  • A staff benefits package including pension, employee discounts, transport support and Westfield Health / wellbeing provision.

  • The opportunity to work with determined young people and committed colleagues in a school that is proud of its community.

If you are excited by the opportunity to join a highly successful school community that is flourishing, ambitious and deeply committed to its people, we would love to hear from you.

Visits to the school are warmly encouraged. Please contact Lee Williams, Executive Headteacher, email [email protected] for further details or to arrange a visit.

Application closing date for all position is Wednesday 13 May. Interviews scheduled to take place week commencing 18 May.
