Geography Teacher - West Midlands (Independent Day School)
A highly regarded independent day school in the West Midlands is seeking to appoint an intellectually curious and engaging Teacher of Geography to join its successful Humanities faculty. This is a full-time, permanent role within a school known for its strong academic culture, excellent pastoral care and commitment to developing well-rounded, globally aware young people.
Geography is a popular subject within the school, with strong uptake at both GCSE and A-Level. Pupils are motivated, articulate and eager to engage with contemporary global issues, making this a stimulating environment in which to teach.
The Role
You will teach Geography across KS3–KS5 , delivering a curriculum that balances physical and human geography with strong geographical skills and enquiry-based learning.
At Key Stage 3, pupils develop secure foundations in map skills, data interpretation and geographical thinking through topics such as climate systems, population change and global development. Teaching encourages discussion, curiosity and independent thinking.
At GCSE and A-Level, small class sizes allow for in-depth exploration of complex themes, including environmental management, globalisation and sustainability. Lessons focus on evaluative writing, confident use of case studies and high-level discussion, with students achieving consistently strong examination outcomes.
You will be encouraged to contribute to curriculum development and enrichment, bringing your own interests and expertise into the department.
The Geography Department
The Geography department is a collegial and academically focused team that values collaboration and subject scholarship. Schemes of work are carefully planned and regularly reviewed, ensuring coherence, challenge and progression across year groups.
Enrichment is an important part of departmental life and may include:
Local and residential fieldwork opportunities
Geography lectures and discussion forums
Academic extension projects for senior pupils
Professional dialogue is encouraged, and staff work closely together to share ideas and best practice.
The School
This independent day school offers a calm, purposeful learning environment with excellent behaviour and strong relationships between staff and pupils. The school places equal emphasis on academic achievement, character development and personal wellbeing.
Leadership is supportive and approachable, with a strong commitment to staff development and professional trust. Teachers are given autonomy within a clear and well-supported framework.
Facilities and Learning Environment
The school benefits from well-maintained teaching spaces and strong library and research facilities that support independent study, particularly at GCSE and A-Level. Humanities classrooms are designed to facilitate discussion-based learning and collaborative work.
Professional Development and Benefits
Staff benefit from:
A competitive independent-school salary
Small class sizes and highly motivated pupils
Excellent CPD and subject development opportunities
Free lunch during term time
On-site parking and access to school facilities
The Ideal Candidate
You will:
Hold QTS or equivalent
Have strong academic credentials in Geography
Be confident teaching GCSE and A-Level
Enjoy working with curious, high-achieving pupils
Value collaboration, scholarship and professional growth
If you are a Geography Teacher seeking a role in a prestigious independent school that values academic depth, global awareness and professional trust, we would be delighted to receive your CV.
