SALARY: £28,861 to £33,786 per annum + Benefits

LOCATION: Sandwell, West Midlands

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 37.5 Hours, Monday to Friday 9am-5pm

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Senior Support Worker to join an expanding accommodation service supporting adults and children affected by domestic abuse, trauma and exploitation.

As the Senior Support Worker you will provide day-to-day support to the service manager, supervise support staff and help ensure residents receive safe, person-centred and responsive support.

The Senior Support Worker will oversee risk assessments, support plans, referrals, safeguarding, partnership working and service standards across accommodation settings.

This role is ideal for someone with strong communication skills, resilience, leadership potential and experience supporting vulnerable people with complex needs.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Senior Support Worker include:

  • Service Support: Support the Refuge Manager and / or Safe House Manager with the day-to-day delivery of accommodation services
  • Team Supervision: Supervise support workers, students and volunteers, providing guidance, advice and practical support
  • Assessments and Plans: Oversee risk assessments, needs assessments and resident-led support plans
  • Resident Support: Help residents build confidence, independence, safety and resilience following abuse or exploitation
  • Referrals: Oversee new referrals, initial risk assessments, accommodation allocation and system updates
  • Safeguarding: Identify, record and escalate safeguarding concerns through the correct channels
  • Partnership Working: Work with housing, health, substance misuse and other external services to support positive outcomes
  • Service Standards: Maintain accurate records, support health and safety, and monitor contractual targets
  • Activities: Coordinate group programmes, events and activities that support recovery and wellbeing

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

  • Education: Level 3 qualification or equivalent, preferably in Health and Social Care, law, housing or community work
  • Support Experience: Experience supporting people affected by trauma, abuse, complex needs or multiple disadvantage
  • Assessment Skills: Experience undertaking risk and needs assessments and developing support plans
  • Safeguarding: Understanding of safeguarding concerns and how to respond appropriately
  • Domestic Abuse Awareness: Understanding of domestic abuse, victim barriers and survivor-led support
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively, advocate for vulnerable people and build positive relationships
  • Person-Centred Approach: Able to work in a non-judgemental, compassionate and empowering way
  • Organisation: Able to manage priorities, deadlines and unplanned demands in a fast-paced service
  • IT Skills: Confident using Microsoft Office, Teams or Zoom, and data collection systems
  • Driving Requirement: Full driving licence, access to a vehicle and willingness to travel to accommodation sites

DESIRABLE

  • Supervision: Experience supervising staff, students or volunteers
  • Finance and Records: Experience with financial administration, rent monitoring or accurate data recording
  • Legislation Knowledge: Knowledge of domestic abuse, modern slavery, homelessness, safeguarding, immigration or welfare benefits
  • Trauma-Informed Practice: Understanding of trauma-informed approaches or motivational interviewing
  • Homelessness Awareness: Understanding of homelessness, its impact and how to support people effectively
