Specialist Teaching Assistant – Focused on Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Intervention – Birmingham

A supportive secondary school in Birmingham is seeking a dedicated Specialist Teaching Assistant (TA) to provide targeted support for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs from January 2026.

  • Specialist TA (SEMH) required from January 2026.
  • Birmingham-based school committed to holistic pastoral care (Midlands).
  • Seeking an empathetic TA to lead 1:1 and small group SEMH intervention programmes .

You will work closely with the SENCO and Pastoral Leads to deliver tailored interventions, support students during emotional crises, and facilitate their integration back into the classroom. The role requires meticulous record-keeping and a proactive approach to managing challenging behaviour.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Proven experience supporting students with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour in an educational setting.
  • Relevant training or qualification in therapeutic approaches, de-escalation, or restorative practice.
  • Excellent empathy, patience, and ability to build strong, trusting relationships with vulnerable students.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and clear communication with external agencies.
