Senior Clinic Fellow in Lower Limb Arthroplasty

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust invites applications from highly motivated and suitably qualified individuals to the role of Senior Clinical Fellow in Lower Limb Arthroplasty Surgery. The posts will be commencing from August 2026 and February 2027 for a 12-month period. 6-month posts can be considered. The post-holder will join a team of surgeons who are enthusiastic about lower limb Arthroplasty particularly management of complex and revision procedures. Three surgeons among the group have a special interest in Young Adult Hip and the fellowship in Young Adult Hip Surgery is advertised separately. The Fellows will join a surgical team of eight specialist Lower limb Arthroplasty surgeons. There are also 3 consultants who specialise in Young Adult Hip and there is potential for exposure to this area of subspecialisation if appropriate. It is however anticipated that these posts will not have a specific Young Adult commitment but will concentrate on Joint replacement and particularly management of complex and urgent revision procedures. One post will provide exposure to computer assisted and robotic assisted hip and knee arthroplasty under supervision of Professor Davis and one will concentrate more on revision hip surgery under the supervision of Mr David Dunlop. The department undertakes a comprehensive range of surgical procedures from hip preservation surgery through to custom made implants for complex revision cases with massive bone loss.The timetable can be tailored depending on the appointees’ specific area of interest. Potential areas: Hip Resurfacing, Hip and Knee Replacement (cemented, uncemented and occasional custom-made cases), Revision Hip and Knee surgery (including cases with multiple previous procedures), Navigated Hip and knee surgery and Robotic Hip and knee Replacements. The appointee will be expected to participate in all aspects of the Clinical Governance structure developed by the Trusts to monitor, maintain and develop the quality and effectiveness of care. The Trusts are committed to the development of medical staff through individual appraisal. This will include: -
• audit of personal clinical practice as well as involvement in department/speciality reviews
• attention to continuing professional development and to meeting the requirements for Continuing Medical Education defined by the relevant Royal College (and for which appropriate study leave support will be available)
• awareness of professional standards and the responsibility to undertake safe and ethical clinical practice
• the importance of responding promptly to any circumstances which may result in increased clinical risk of adverse outcome.

There will be opportunities to undertake research and audit. Involvement in an ongoing or new research project is to be a major part of this post. The post holder will be expected to undertake presentations and produce publications based on their work.
