Job Summary
Band 5 Endoscopy Registered Staff Nurse
Endoscopy is a rapidly developing service with advances in diagnostic and therapeutic therapies constantly evolving. The service offers a broad range of therapies for patients diagnosed with Gastroenterological disorders and operates a 24 hour on call service for patients with GI bleeds. It is a fast-paced environment with opportunities to develop specialist skills, Heartlands Endoscopy team are friendly, supportive, and welcoming.
- Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level leading to Professional registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register Adult.
- Endoscopy experience within the discipline.
- Knowledge of specialised Endoscopy Procedures.
- Knowledge of Gastroenterology conditions and their effects.
- Being an accountable professional.
- Working in teams

- Full driving licence
- Excellent written, Verbal communication skills
- Good IT skills ability to record information electronically
We require enthusiastic, motivated nurses who can work as team. Following training you would be expected to participate in the 'on call' GI bleed service which is operational during out of hours. The current Endoscopy service is five days a week, with plans to expand to a 7-day service once staffing levels are established. We currently have vacancies at Heartlands Hospital.
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
- To be fully aware of local policies and procedures and those for the Trust.
- To be aware of own training needs and developmental needs within the clinical environment.
- To deliver patient care using the philosophy of individualised patient care.
- To participate in health education.
- To report on care given, to other members of staff, communicating changes as they occur.
- To liaise with other health care professionals.
- To be aware of and respect the patient's rights for confidentiality.
- To be conversant with the 'Code of Professional Conduct' in duties.
- To be professionally accountable for all actions during working shift.
- To supervise student/learner nurses and unqualified nurses in the giving of patient care.

Essential
- Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level leading to Professional registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register i.e. ( Adult / Child / Learning Disability or Mental Health)
- Evidence of undergraduate education for newly qualified nurses / or post graduate continuing professional development for registered nurses who have post registration experience
Experience
Essential
- Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary health and care setting (can include undergraduate student placements within the last 12 months)
- Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor to or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
- Demonstrable understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct and the proficiencies and standards for registered nurses can apply this to undergraduate training or post graduate practice
- Being an accountable professional
- Promoting health and preventing ill health
- Assessing needs and planning care
- Providing and evaluating care
- Leading and managing nursing care and working in teams -- including prioritisation and delegation skills
- Coordinating care and responding to deteriorating health
- Improving safety and quality of care

- Understanding / experience of the principles of Safeguarding and Mental Capacity
- Awareness of Health and Safety issues.
Desirable
- Experience in working in an Acute NHS practice setting as an undergraduate student nurse or post graduate registered nurse.

- Demonstrable communication and relationship management skills which include
- Listening -- writing -- reading -- speaking in English with understanding of contemporaneous record keeping
- Good IT skills ability to record information electronically
- Competent in a range of clinical skills/ nursing procedures willingness to undertake expanded practices relevant to the scope of practice require
- Competent in managing the care of a group of patients / shift management (take charge of the practice setting in the absence of more senior staff) relevant to the practise setting.
