The Opportunity
Birmingham is a city with a prestigious sporting identity, from hosting the Commonwealth Games to being home to some of the nation’s most historic football and cricket grounds. We are seeking an energetic and inspirational Female PE Teacher to join an Ofsted-rated 'Outstanding' secondary academy . In this role, you will be at the heart of a city that lives and breathes sport, acting as a pivotal role model to empower young women to achieve physical excellence and lifelong health.
The Department & Sporting Culture
You will join a high-performing Physical Education faculty that prides itself on a diverse and modern curriculum designed to engage every student.
The academy features premium facilities, including a multi-use sports centre, floodlit pitches, and dedicated studios for dance and rhythmic gymnastics.
As an "Outstanding" setting, we prioritise a holistic approach to PE, linking physical performance with mental resilience, leadership, and nutritional science.
We maintain active partnerships with Birmingham’s elite sporting institutions, providing students with pathways into professional coaching, officiating, and competitive club sport.
Core Responsibilities
Exemplary Instruction: Delivering high-impact PE lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, including GCSE PE and BTEC Sport for suitably qualified candidates.
Participation Strategy: Developing innovative programmes specifically designed to increase female engagement in sport and reduce barriers to physical activity.
Coaching & Extra-Curricular: Leading and managing the academy’s representative teams in local and regional competitions across a variety of disciplines, including netball, football, and athletics.
Theoretical Rigour: Delivering the academic components of the curriculum, ensuring students master the complexities of anatomy, physiology, and socio-cultural issues in sport.
Role Model Leadership: Acting as a mentor for female students, fostering a culture of body confidence, teamwork, and competitive integrity.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a subject specialist who is passionate about the transformative impact of physical education. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong honours degree in Physical Education or a related Sports Science discipline.
Proven Track Record: Evidence of delivering high-quality practical and theoretical lessons, with a deep understanding of current GCSE and vocational assessment frameworks.
Dynamic Presence: The ability to motivate students of all abilities through high-energy teaching and a genuine passion for physical fitness.
Reflective Practice: A professional committed to continuous growth, eager to contribute to the academy’s extensive extra-curricular and enrichment programme.
Due to the requirements of the curriculum and the supervision of female changing facilities, this post is restricted to female applicants under the Equality Act 2010.
Why Join Us?
The chance to work in an "Outstanding" environment where student behaviour is exemplary and PE is a central pillar of the academy's identity.
Unrivalled professional development pathways, including leadership training and collaboration with elite practitioners across the West Midlands.
The opportunity to work in Birmingham—a vibrant, diverse city offering world-class cultural amenities and a central role in the UK’s sporting future.
