Head of Geography - 11-18 Secondary School - Solihull,...
An ambitious and forward-thinking secondary school in Solihull is seeking an inspiring and strategic Head of Geography to lead its successful Humanities faculty. This is a key middle leadership role within a well-regarded 11–18 school known for its strong academic standards, supportive culture and clear systems.
The School
Located in a well-connected residential area of Solihull, this popular secondary school serves a broad and aspirational community. The school has maintained a strong Ofsted profile and is widely recognised for its calm corridors, consistent behaviour systems and improving examination outcomes across Key Stages 4 and 5.
Leadership is visible and approachable, with a strong emphasis on curriculum clarity and staff wellbeing. The school has invested significantly in its learning environments in recent years, including refurbished Humanities classrooms and upgraded digital teaching facilities.
Staff describe the culture as “professional and purposeful,” with strong collaboration between departments and clear expectations around teaching and learning.
The Geography Department
Geography is a popular and well-performing subject within the school. GCSE uptake is strong, and results have consistently improved over the past three years. A-Level Geography is established and attracts committed and capable students.
The curriculum is knowledge-rich and carefully sequenced, balancing physical and human geography with clear skills progression. Fieldwork is embedded into the curriculum, including local urban studies and coastal investigations further afield.
Key features include:
Dedicated Geography classrooms within a well-resourced Humanities block
Shared schemes of learning with structured assessment points
Strong emphasis on literacy, extended writing and exam technique
Regular curriculum review meetings focused on subject depth and challenge
A culture of high expectations and academic rigour
The Role
As Head of Geography, you will:
Lead curriculum planning and development across KS3–KS5
Monitor standards and drive continued improvement in outcomes
Support and develop teachers within the department
Promote fieldwork and enrichment opportunities
Contribute to whole-school teaching and learning strategy
The school is seeking a candidate with clear subject expertise, strong classroom practice and the ability to inspire both students and colleagues.
About You
The successful candidate will:
Hold QTS and a relevant Geography qualification
Have a proven track record of strong outcomes at GCSE (and ideally A-Level)
Demonstrate leadership potential or experience
Be organised, strategic and reflective
Value collaboration and high professional standards
What the School Offers
A genuine opportunity to shape and lead a successful department
Strong support from senior leadership
Structured leadership development and CPD
Clear behaviour systems that support excellent classroom practice
A professional, respectful working environment
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Geography teacher ready to take the next step into leadership within a stable, ambitious and well-supported school.
