Regulation and Engagement Practitioner

Long Term Futures
Birmingham

Regulation and Engagement Practitioner
Rubery, West Midlands
£110-£125 per day
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-Time, Temp-to-Perm

Long Term Futures is seeking a resilient and proactive Regulation and Engagement Practitioner to join a supportive secondary school in Rubery. This is a unique opportunity to work within a mainstream setting, supporting students who require additional assistance with emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement in learning.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping pupils remain within their mainstream lessons wherever possible. Rather than removing students from the classroom, you will work alongside teaching staff to help pupils regulate their emotions, overcome barriers to learning, and successfully re-engage with their education.

About the Role
Working closely with the Inclusion Team, pastoral staff, SENCo, and classroom teachers, you will provide targeted support to students who may struggle with emotional regulation or display behaviours that impact their learning. Your responsibilities will include:
* Responding to incidents of dysregulation and supporting pupils to regain emotional control
* Working proactively within classrooms to prevent escalation and reduce barriers to learning
* Supporting students to remain engaged in lessons and access the curriculum successfully
* Building positive, trusting relationships with young people across KS3 and KS4
* Using de-escalation techniques and restorative approaches to support behaviour management
* Encouraging pupils to develop self-regulation, resilience, and coping strategies
* Working collaboratively with teaching staff to implement behaviour and support plans
* Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to relevant staff members
* Promoting a calm, positive, and inclusive learning environment across the school

Ideal Candidate Profile
* Experience working with secondary-aged pupils in an educational, youth work, care, or pastoral setting
* Confident managing challenging behaviour and responding calmly under pressure
* Firm but fair approach, with the ability to establish boundaries and maintain consistency
* Patient, empathetic, and passionate about supporting young people to succeed
* Strong communication and relationship-building skills
* Understanding of SEMH needs and emotional regulation strategies would be advantageous
* Able to work independently whilst contributing positively to a wider team
* Reliable, committed, and looking for a long-term opportunity

Why Work with Long Term Futures?
* Long-term placement with a clear pathway to permanent employment
* Weekly pay through our streamlined digital payroll system
* Access to free CPD, including Behaviour Management, SEMH, Safeguarding, and Positive Handling
* Ongoing support and guidance from a dedicated consultant
* Opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a forward-thinking secondary school
