English Teaching Role in a Secondary School
A forward-thinking Secondary School in Birmingham is seeking to appoint a passionate and committed English Teacher to join its successful English department from September. This is a full-time role within a supportive school that values literacy, creativity, and strong academic progress.
English is a core subject across the school, with students encouraged to develop confidence in reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking through an engaging and inclusive curriculum.
About the Role
You will teach English Language and English Literature across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and potentially Key Stage 5, delivering engaging lessons that promote a love of reading and strong academic outcomes.
Students will study a range of literary texts including Shakespeare, modern and pre-1900 literature, poetry, and non-fiction, while developing analytical and writing skills essential for examinations and beyond.
You will support students in preparing for GCSE English Language and Literature, with the opportunity to teach A-Level depending on experience.
You will work closely with colleagues in a collaborative department focused on raising attainment and improving outcomes for all learners.
Key Responsibilities
Teach English Language and Literature across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)
Plan and deliver engaging and accessible lessons
Prepare students for GCSE examinations
Assess and track student progress effectively
Provide feedback to support improvement and attainment
Contribute to curriculum development and departmental planning
Support literacy initiatives across the school
Maintain strong behaviour for learning in the classroom

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching English at secondary level
Strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature
Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently
Strong classroom management skills
Desirable
Experience teaching KS5 English
Experience working in a Secondary or inclusive school setting
Ability to contribute to literacy interventions or enrichment activities
Strong exam preparation experience
