Science Teacher | Standalone Mainstream Secondary |...
CORE PURPOSE
We require an ambitious, intellectually rigorous Science Teacher to deliver high-quality biology, chemistry, and physics instruction across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. The role involves facilitating a challenging, concepts-first academic curriculum while leveraging practical laboratory work to foster deep scientific inquiry, analytical reasoning, and academic mastery.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Curriculum Design & Instruction: Plan, resource, and deliver highly structured, evidence-based science lessons that challenge pupils across all technical and academic abilities.
Practical Laboratory Leadership: Coordinate and execute safe, engaging practical experiments, ensuring pupils master foundational laboratory techniques, scientific data collection, and safety protocols.
Academic Progress Monitoring: Implement rigorous formative and summative assessment routines, utilising pupil tracking data to design sharp, targeted interventions that bridge learning gaps.
Examination Preparation: Guide Key Stage 4 cohorts systematically through the demands of terminal GCSE combined and triple science specifications, maximising progress outcomes for all learners.
Pastoral Care Integration: Undertake full form tutor responsibilities, managing daily registration, monitoring pupil attendance, and delivering the school's structured personal development units.
ENVIRONMENT & STRUCTURE
Standalone Mainstream Framework: Operating within a newly established, independent standalone mainstream secondary school, our institution offers a fresh, innovative approach to local education. Free from centralized trust restrictions, the school provides exceptional operational autonomy, rapid paths to leadership, and custom-tailored professional development.
Behaviour Systems: The campus implements a highly consistent, disruption-free behaviour policy focused on clarity and morning routines, ensuring science laboratories and classrooms remain calm, predictable, and exceptionally safe environments for complex practical work.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching credential, paired with a strong honours degree in a core scientific discipline (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics).
Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver strong progress outcomes in terminal public examinations through explicit, highly engaging instruction.
Routine Implementation: The ability to execute school behaviour policies with absolute consistency, maintaining a positive, highly focused, and strictly disciplined workshop and classroom culture.
REGIONAL CONTEXT
Metropolitan Innovation & STEM Hub: Based in Birmingham, the school operates within the UK's dynamic second city—a major European commercial centre undergoing massive urban regeneration and thriving as a primary hub for healthcare, digital technology, and advanced engineering.
Connectivity: The area offers premier West Midlands transit infrastructure, providing seamless commuting via the extensive local West Midlands Metro tram system, major motorway networks (M6, M5, M42), and comprehensive rail operations running smoothly through Birmingham New Street, Moor Street, and international transport hubs.
