Real Estate (Development) Lawyer
REAL ESTATE (DEVELOPMENT) LAWYER | 5-8 PQE | National Law Firm | Birmingham/Hybrid BCL Legal is pleased to be assisting a long-established and highly respected national law firm in its search for a Real Estate (Development) Solicitor to join its growing team in Birmingham. The Role As a Solicitor in the Real Estate & Projects team, you will:
- Specialise in site acquisition and development projects for a broad client base including registered providers, private developers, investment funds, and more.
- Take on a range of property-related legal matters, from negotiating development agreements, conditional contracts, and advising on title issues, to managing legal completion and post-completion requirements.
- Lead on complex real estate development acquisitions, including large-scale portfolio acquisitions and multi-phase residential schemes, and assist with disposals.
- Provide support on larger projects such as joint ventures, regeneration projects, and care-related developments.
- Engage in due diligence processes, including title review and reporting on land acquisition contracts, development agreements, plot/block/phase leases, and transfers.
- Advise on infrastructure and statutory agreements related to development sites, section 106 agreements, and planning consents.
- Take a leading role in client communication, providing regular updates and ensuring deadlines are met with the highest standards of service.
- Contribute to the growth of the team, supporting junior solicitors and paralegals, and sharing knowledge across the department.
- 5-8 years' PQE with a strong background in real estate law, particularly in site acquisition and development matters.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and advisory skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a client-focused approach.
- A solid understanding of structuring transactions, particularly in relation to SDLT and VAT.
- The ability to manage multiple matters efficiently, prioritising your workload and meeting client deadlines.
- A strong academic background, ideally with a 2:1 or higher at degree level.
- An interest or experience in Registered Providers or affordable housing transactions would be advantageous, but not essential.
- A proactive and commercial mindset, with the ability to convey clear, concise advice to clients and external organisations.
