Year 2 Teacher — Birmingham
A forward-thinking Good primary in Birmingham is seeking a passionate and skilled Year 2 Teacher to join its KS1 phase on a Full-Time basis from January 2026. This Year 2 Teacher role is pivotal: the Year 2 Teacher will secure early reading and number fluency, close gaps and ensure pupils are ready for the wider challenges of Key Stage 2. The successful Year 2 Teacher will engage in planning before the January 2026 start, attend induction in January 2026, and begin teaching from January 2026 as a Full-Time Year 2 Teacher.
This school places emphasis on high-quality first teaching. The Year 2 Teacher will lead daily phonics, guided reading and well-sequenced writing units, using assessment to deliver targeted interventions. The Year 2 Teacher will join a collaborative KS1 team and will be supported by teaching assistants and phase leaders from January 2026. As the Year 2 Teacher, you will take part in moderation and curriculum review in the weeks leading up to January 2026 and in the term after January 2026.
Typical responsibilities for the Year 2 Teacher
• Plan and deliver ambitious lessons in reading, writing and mathematics as the Year 2 Teacher.
• Use formative assessment to identify gaps and run effective small-group interventions as the Year 2 Teacher.
• Communicate progress to parents and lead termly assessment meetings as the Year 2 Teacher.
• Support transition work to Year 3 and contribute to whole-school initiatives as the Year 2 Teacher.
Candidate profile — Year 2 Teacher
We are seeking a Year 2 Teacher with QTS, proven KS1 experience and strong phonics knowledge. The ideal Year 2 Teacher will be resilient, creative and committed to inclusive practice. The Year 2 Teacher should be ready to begin preparation prior to January 2026, attend induction in January 2026, and teach from January 2026 as a Full-Time Year 2 Teacher. The school provides a clear CPD pathway and mentoring to help the Year 2 Teacher grow into subject leadership if desired after January 2026.
