Purpose of the role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a newly qualified solicitor to work in a team that provides a range of high quality legal services on complex matters to the firm’s technical claims clients. Your focus will be providing support on coverage issues relating to Kidnap and Ransom/cyber policies and investigating claims for cyber extortion risk, with claims ordinarily valued over £500k and arising worldwide. You will also provide support for a lead lawyer in complex and high value EL/PL and sports injury claims involving brain and spinal injury valued at up to £10m. Such services will be provided with regard to proper levels of due care and attention, any statutory requirements, the client’s interests and professional conduct levels as determined by the SRA.
Responsibilities
- Managing a caseload of claims arising from cyber extortion risks in accordance with client requirements and SLAs
- Liaising with clients in the UK and specialist first line party providers internationally to facilitate restoration of systems and also investigate quantum for business shut down mainly in the USA
- Undertaking tasks under the supervision of a lead lawyer on complex and high value EL and PL claims
- Delegating tasks to junior fee earners in the team as appropriate
- Undertaking business development activities, including the planning and delivery of relevant seminar and training programmes in person and online, client management and provision of accurate management information
- Supporting the team in delivering the core principles of investors in clients to deliver exceptional client service
- Achieving your own target hours and fees for the year
- Undertaking any other duties as required, commensurate with the level of the post
Person specification
As part of the technical claims team, you would be expected to have the following skills and experience:
- Technical acumen across a range of areas including: policy coverage, negligence, EL/PL, vicarious liability, personal injury, large loss and quantum
- Attention to detail with the ability to explain/advise clients on complex technical aspects of process and procedure
- Should be confident and able to work on own initiative and assume the responsibilities of a fee earner
- Will need a flexible and professional attitude to work, be adaptable and able to work under pressure in a demanding role
- Effective communicator, able to establish and maintain harmonious and professional relationships with clients and colleagues
- Good organisational skills and be able to manage own time effectively
- A proactive, professional and flexible approach to work
- Keen to develop over a period of time with a willingness and ability to learn
