Year 1 Teacher - Edgbaston, Birmingham

Marchant Recruitment
Birmingham

We are seeking a passionate, creative, and enthusiastic Year 1 Teacher to join a welcoming primary school in Edgbaston, starting as soon as possible. This role is an exciting opportunity to teach children at a crucial stage of their education, supporting their transition from Reception and helping them build confidence, independence, and foundational literacy and numeracy skills.

As a Year 1 Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons across the curriculum, ensuring all pupils are supported, challenged, and encouraged to reach their full potential. The school values nurturing, reflective, and innovative teaching, and the successful candidate will play an integral role in shaping pupils’ learning experiences.

Our school fosters a culture of collaboration, professional development, and high expectations. You will work closely with teaching assistants and colleagues across Key Stage 1 to share best practices, contribute to school initiatives, and ensure continuity and progression in learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate high-quality lessons across the Year 1 curriculum

  • Monitor pupil progress and adapt teaching to meet individual learning needs

  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment

  • Promote positive behaviour, independence, and social skills

  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, colleagues, and senior leaders

  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding pupil progress and achievements

  • Participate in staff meetings, CPD, and whole-school initiatives

  • Support pupils’ transition from Early Years Foundation Stage to Key Stage 1

This role offers the chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners, laying the foundations for future academic and personal success.

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Have experience teaching Key Stage 1, preferably Year 1

  • Be confident in delivering engaging lessons in literacy, numeracy, and wider curriculum areas

  • Demonstrate excellent classroom management and the ability to differentiate teaching

  • Be creative, reflective, and committed to professional development

  • Work collaboratively within a supportive staff team

  • Be dedicated to safeguarding, inclusion, and promoting pupil wellbeing

Early Career Teachers are encouraged to apply, with mentoring and support provided to help them thrive in the role.

Why Join Us?

  • Supportive leadership team and professional, collaborative staff culture

  • Access to well-resourced classrooms and high-quality teaching materials

  • Opportunities for professional development and CPD tailored to your needs

  • Pupils who are motivated, curious, and eager to learn

  • A school ethos that prioritises creativity, inclusion, and staff wellbeing

  • The opportunity to make a tangible difference in children’s early Key Stage 1 learning

Location

Based in Edgbaston, Birmingham, the school serves a diverse and vibrant community. Staff enjoy a professional environment where collaboration, reflective practice, and staff wellbeing are valued, and where parents are active partners in their children’s learning.

How to Apply

To apply, please forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, clearly outlining your qualifications, experience, and suitability for the role.

Start Date: ASAP

This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.
