Geography Specialist (KS3-KS4) - Sutton Coldfield, West...

Marchant Recruitment
Birmingham

A well-regarded and high-performing secondary school in Sutton Coldfield is seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Geography Specialist to join its Humanities team. This role offers the chance to teach Geography in a school that values global awareness, enquiry-based learning and strong subject foundations.

The school has a strong local reputation for academic outcomes, positive behaviour and a calm, purposeful learning environment. Geography is a popular subject, with healthy uptake at GCSE and a clear focus on building strong geographical thinking from Key Stage 3 onwards.

The Opportunity

You will teach Geography across Key Stages 3 and 4 , delivering a curriculum that balances physical and human geography with the development of core skills such as data interpretation, extended writing and evaluative thinking.

At Key Stage 3, lessons focus on building curiosity about the world through well-sequenced topics and clear geographical concepts. At GCSE, teaching is structured and exam-aware, with an emphasis on case studies, application of knowledge and confidence in written responses.

You’ll work within an established curriculum framework while being encouraged to bring your own expertise and enthusiasm into the classroom.

The Humanities Faculty

Geography sits within a strong and collaborative Humanities faculty alongside History and RE. Departments work closely together, sharing approaches to literacy, assessment and curriculum planning.

The Geography team values:

  • Clear explanations and strong subject knowledge

  • Consistent routines and expectations

  • Engaging case studies linked to real-world issues

  • Manageable and meaningful fieldwork opportunities

Staff support one another through shared resources and regular subject dialogue.

The School Setting

This is a Good-rated secondary school known for its high standards, respectful students and strong pastoral systems. Behaviour is well managed through clear expectations and consistent leadership support.

Teachers describe the school as organised, professional and supportive, with leadership that listens and responds to staff feedback.

Facilities and Resources

Geography teaching is supported by modern classrooms, access to digital mapping and data tools, and a well-resourced library that supports independent research and wider reading.

Who We’re Looking For

You will:

  • Hold QTS or equivalent in Geography or a related subject

  • Be confident teaching KS3 and KS4

  • Have a passion for geography and global issues

  • Value collaboration and professional learning

  • Use clear routines to support positive behaviour

Why Consider This Role?

  • Supportive Humanities faculty

  • Clear curriculum and shared planning

  • Calm classrooms and motivated students

  • Sensible workload expectations

  • Strong focus on professional development

This is an excellent opportunity for a Geography specialist seeking a stable, well-run school where subject expertise is valued and supported.
