SEND Teaching Assistant - Mainstream Primary School (SEND Hub)
Location: North Birmingham (City Centre) Start Date: April 2026 Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term (March – July 2026) Agency: TeacherActive TeacherActive is working in partnership with a welcoming mainstream primary school in North Birmingham that has a dedicated SEND Hub to support pupils with additional needs. The school is seeking an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis. This role involves supporting pupils within the school’s SEND Hub who are non-verbal and have Autism. Some pupils may display challenging behaviours; it is essential that candidates have previous experience working with children with Autism and complex SEND needs. The Role:
- Supporting pupils within the school’s SEND Hub on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Working closely with pupils who are non-verbal and have Autism
- Supporting pupils with their communication, emotional regulation, and engagement
- Managing and responding appropriately to challenging behaviours
- Working alongside the class teacher and SEND team to support learning and development
- Helping to create a safe, structured, and supportive environment
- Experience working with children with Autism and complex SEND needs (essential)
- Experience supporting non-verbal pupils (highly desirable)
- Strong behaviour management skills
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach
- A passion for supporting children with additional needs
- A qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or SEND (desirable but not essential)
- Must be available full-time from March to July 2026
- Must be able to provide 2 professional references from recent employers
- Must have an enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to complete one through TeacherActive
