EL Support assistant

Teaching Personnel is currently seeking a qualified ELSA to provide support within a mainstream school, working with a pupil who has an EHCP. This is a full-time, term-time role for the remainder of the current academic year initially, with the possibility of a permanent or fixed-term position for the right candidate. An Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) is a trained teaching assistant who focuses on supporting children’s emotional and social development, typically under the supervision of an Educational Psychologist. The role involves planning and delivering tailored interventions, either one-to-one or in small groups, to address areas such as anxiety, bereavement, anger management, and building positive relationships. Key Responsibilities: Delivering Interventions: Design and lead personalised, evidence-based sessions aimed at developing emotional regulation and social skills. Assessment & Tracking: Establish clear, measurable targets, monitor progress, and keep accurate, confidential records of all support provided. Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and parents to review progress and maintain a consistent support approach. Pastoral Care: Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and provide guidance for those experiencing emotional or behavioural challenges. Supervision: Attend regular supervision sessions with an Educational Psychologist. Person Specification: Empathy & Patience: A calm, caring, and approachable nature with the ability to stay composed in challenging situations. Experience: Previous experience working with children in an educational environment is desirable. Communication Skills: Strong ability to communicate effectively with pupils, colleagues, and parents. Creativity: Capable of creating engaging and varied resources to support emotional development. Qualifications: Accredited ELSA training is required. Initiative: Able to work independently and take a proactive approach.
