Geography Teacher - Independent Co-educational School -...
A forward-thinking independent co-educational school in Birmingham is seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Teacher of Geography to join its successful Humanities faculty. This is an excellent opportunity to teach Geography in a setting that values academic depth, real-world relevance and a genuinely holistic education.
The Role
You will teach Geography across KS3–KS5, delivering a curriculum that balances physical and human geography while developing strong analytical, evaluative and fieldwork skills. Lessons are enquiry-led and discussion-rich, encouraging pupils to explore global challenges such as climate change, urbanisation and sustainability with confidence and curiosity.
At senior levels, classes are small and seminar-style, allowing for in-depth exploration of case studies, independent research and extended writing. Geography is a popular subject at both GCSE and A-Level, with strong outcomes and high levels of student engagement.
There are opportunities to contribute to enrichment activities including geography societies, lectures, competitions and domestic or overseas fieldwork.
The School
This independent school is known for combining high academic standards with outstanding pastoral care. Set within an attractive campus that blends traditional buildings with modern teaching spaces, it provides an inspiring and calm learning environment.
Pupils are motivated, articulate and respectful, and behaviour is exemplary. The school places strong emphasis on developing global awareness, leadership and independent thought, making Geography a highly valued subject within the curriculum.
The Department
The Humanities department is collaborative, ambitious and well-resourced. Teachers are trusted as subject specialists and supported to develop innovative approaches to teaching and learning. New staff benefit from a thorough induction and a culture of shared best practice and professional dialogue.
About You
The successful candidate will:
Hold QTS or an equivalent qualification (or relevant independent-sector experience)
Have strong subject knowledge in Geography
Be confident teaching GCSE and A-Level
Enjoy working with highly motivated pupils
Be keen to contribute to enrichment and wider school life
Why Join?
Small class sizes and excellent student behaviour
Strong academic outcomes and subject uptake
Supportive leadership and professional autonomy
Competitive salary and independent-sector benefits
This role is ideal for a Geography teacher seeking to work in an academically rigorous, supportive and intellectually stimulating environment.
