Job Description

About Me

About Me

Hello, I am a 10-year-old boy who lives at home with my dad, grandmother, grandfather, two uncles, one auntie, and my younger cousin. My dad is married, but my stepmum does not yet live with us.

My family describe me as strong-minded, happy, and active. I enjoy cuddles, playing with my noisy toys, listening to Disney nursery songs, and seeing my friends and teachers at school. Although I do not have siblings, I have cousins who visit me regularly, and I always look forward to spending time with them.

My Needs and Development

I was born with Spastic Cerebral Palsy , which has affected my growth and development. I also have Profound Global Developmental Delay , meaning I am behind other children my age and need a high level of support in all areas of daily life.

I am unable to speak; however, I understand what is being said to me. I communicate through my facial expressions and body language:

  • When I am happy, I laugh and make cooing sounds
  • When I am unhappy or uncomfortable, I cry

It is very important that people supporting me take time to understand these signals.

My Physical Health and Mobility

I have additional conditions including:

  • Dystonia
  • Spastic quadriplegia
  • Scoliosis

These affect my mobility. I:

  • Use a wheelchair
  • Have limited movement in my limbs
  • Cannot control my head movements

I also need to wear a body brace daily  to support my posture.

Medical Needs

I previously experienced frequent seizures; however, these are now well-controlled with medication.

I am unable to eat or drink by mouth and receive all my nutrition and medication through a gastrostomy (PEG) . This was required following severe gastro-oesophageal reflux, and I have had a fundoplication  procedure.

I previously had small tastes of soft foods like yoghurt, but this is currently paused due to increased vomiting.

Feeding and Health Risks

I experience frequent daily vomiting , which puts me at risk of:

  • Aspiration
  • Chest infections

I am also at risk of gastrostomy site infections  if proper care is not maintained.

To support my health, it is essential that:

  • My PEG site is cleaned daily
  • The water in my PEG balloon is changed weekly
  • My feeding plan, provided by my dietician, is followed carefully

Good nutrition is very important for my:

  • Growth and weight
  • Overall health
  • Skin condition

My Wellbeing

I really enjoy:

  • Spending time with my family
  • Taking part in cultural and spiritual celebrations
  • Being involved in activities with support

Please always respect my needs and include me in family life.

Support Needs

To help me develop safely and feel secure, I need:

  • A consistent home and school routine
  • A safe, well-supported environment
  • Caregivers who understand my communication and medical needs

With the right support, I can continue to enjoy my life, engage with others, and feel happy and comfortable.

Qualifications

What You’ll Need

  • To be reliable and punctual
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Show patience, kindness, and a calm temperament
  • Promote choice, respect, and dignity
  • Be observant and willing to gain a deep understanding of me and my needs
  • Want to be part of my everyday life—filling it with joy, encouragement, and security
  • Be able to record information accurately, clearly, and promptly

What I’m Looking for in Support

To want to make my every day the best that it can be.

What you’ll need:

  • Experience in medication administration
  • Complex Care experience in a Paediatric setting
