Science Teacher | Outstanding Secondary Academy | Birmingham
The Opportunity
Birmingham is a city at the forefront of scientific advancement, from its history as the "City of a Thousand Trades" to its current status as a global leader in life sciences, sustainable energy, and automotive engineering. We are seeking an intellectually curious and inspiring Science Teacher to join an Ofsted-rated 'Outstanding' secondary academy . In this role, you will help students unlock the mysteries of the natural world, utilizing Birmingham’s rich industrial and medical landscape to bring biology, chemistry, and physics to life.
The Department & Scientific Culture
You will join a high-performing Science faculty where practical, enquiry-based learning is at the heart of the curriculum.
The academy features state-of-the-art laboratories and specialized preparation rooms, supported by a dedicated team of experienced technicians.
As an "Outstanding" setting, we prioritize a "big ideas" approach—connecting core concepts like cellular biology, atomic structure, and energy conservation to real-world global challenges.
We maintain active links with the University of Birmingham’s STEM departments and local pioneers in green technology, providing students with unique insights into the future of scientific careers.
Core Responsibilities
Exemplary Instruction: Delivering high-challenge Science lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE Triple and Combined Science), with opportunities for A-Level instruction in your specialist discipline.
Practical Leadership: Designing and executing rigorous laboratory experiments that foster a deep understanding of the scientific method and promote analytical thinking.
Conceptual Clarity: Demystifying complex theories—from the mechanics of the human heart to the intricacies of chemical bonding and the laws of thermodynamics.
Data-Driven Success: Utilizing the academy’s sophisticated assessment framework to identify and bridge learning gaps, ensuring all students exceed their academic targets.
STEM Advocacy: Leading extracurricular initiatives, such as robotics clubs or environmental sustainability projects, that inspire students to pursue science beyond the classroom.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a subject specialist who is passionate about cultivating the next generation of scientists and engineers. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong honours degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related Science discipline.
Proven Track Record: Evidence of delivering exceptional learning outcomes at GCSE, with a deep understanding of AQA or Edexcel assessment objectives.
Instructional Versatility: The ability to teach all three sciences at KS3 while maintaining high-level expertise in your chosen specialism at KS4 and KS5.
Reflective Practice: A professional committed to continuous growth, eager to participate in collaborative planning and peer-led professional development.

Unrivalled professional development pathways, including opportunities for middle leadership and specialized training in advanced pedagogical techniques.
The opportunity to work in Birmingham—a culturally vibrant city offering world-class amenities, excellent transport links, and a central role in the UK’s scientific future.
