Senior Practitioner - Family Support

Ambassadors Resourcing is recruiting on behalf of North-East Birmingham Family Hub for an experienced Lead Practitioner – Family Support to join their team on a long-term temporary basis. This role offers an opportunity to lead family support services within Birmingham’s Family Hubs, working primarily with children aged 0–5 within the 0–19 model, while supporting a whole-family approach that promotes positive outcomes for children, young people, and families.

The successful candidate will lead and manage the Family Support team, ensuring vulnerable and complex families receive effective, targeted interventions. Working closely with parents, children, multi-agency professionals, and community partners, you will champion child-centred practice, strengthen family resilience, and contribute to the ongoing development of Family Hubs.

Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage Family Practitioners delivering targeted support to vulnerable and complex families within the 0–19 model.
Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring compliance with safeguarding legislation, policies, procedures, and best practice.
Provide leadership, supervision, mentoring, and support to staff, promoting high standards of practice and professional development.
Oversee one-to-one and group-based interventions, offering guidance on complex casework and decision-making.
Ensure timely assessments, effective case management, and coordinated interventions that address identified family needs.
Promote meaningful engagement of children and parents in planning and decision-making processes.
Manage safeguarding reporting, audits, quality assurance processes, and compliance with local safeguarding procedures.
Ensure staff adhere to health and safety requirements, including lone working policies and risk assessments.
Monitor case recording, reporting, and information sharing in line with contractual and data protection requirements.
Develop innovative approaches to engage hard-to-reach families and improve service accessibility.
Support staff through reflective supervision and ongoing professional development.
Work collaboratively with health visitors, schools, social care, and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes.
Lead allocation meetings, contribute to service development, and support inspections and audits, including Ofsted and safeguarding reviews.
Assist with the induction and support of new staff, students, and volunteers.
Work with the Lead Practitioner (Early Years) to manage the duty drop-in service.
Essential Requirements
NVQ Level 3 in Childcare, Health, Social Care, or a related field.
Experience managing complex family casework at Tier 3 and Tier 4 levels.
Leadership experience, including staff supervision, guidance, and performance management.
Proven experience supporting vulnerable children and families through early intervention and family support services.
Experience conducting assessments, home visits, group work, parenting programmes, and family support interventions.
Ability to evaluate and monitor programme effectiveness and outcomes.
Experience engaging hard-to-reach families and managing crisis situations effectively.
Strong understanding of the Early Help process and lead professional responsibilities.
Experience maintaining accurate case records, risk assessments, and monitoring information.
Knowledge of safeguarding, confidentiality, data protection, and professional boundaries.
Excellent communication, relationship-building, and multi-agency working skills.
Experience delivering workshops, parenting programmes, and one-to-one support.
GCSE Grade 4/C or above in English and Maths (or equivalent).
Full driving licence and ability to travel across the service area.

Applicants must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS check and any required Overseas Police Clearances, have the legal right to work in the UK, and provide satisfactory references covering the previous five years. Shortlisted candidates will also undergo Teacher Regulation Agency checks and online searches in line with safer recruitment procedures.
