Veterinary Surgeon | West Midlands | Up to £65,000 DOE

Global Veterinary Careers (GVC)
Birmingham

Hospital-based role with 12 theatres, CT, certificate holders on-site & no OOH — full & part-time considered across multiple branches.

Who They Are

This is a well-established, profitable small animal first-opinion hospital operating across multiple branches in the West Midlands — all within 30 minutes of Birmingham. With a strong insured client base, a team of 19 vets including 7 certificate holders across cardiology, dermatology, medicine, ophthalmology, and soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, this practice has built a reputation for clinical excellence at every level.

The facilities speak for themselves: 12 operating theatres, CT, digital X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, a fully equipped dental suite, and a comprehensive in-house laboratory. A dedicated out-of-hours night team means the last appointment is 18:30 on weekdays — no OOH burden for the day team.

This is a practice that invests in its people, with a proven track record of developing vets from graduate level through to certificate holders, branch managers, and leadership roles.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct thorough clinical examinations across a varied first-opinion caseload including consultations, routine and elective procedures, and dentistry
  • Perform diagnostics using on-site CT, digital X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, and in-house laboratory facilities
  • Carry out surgical procedures including routine soft tissue surgeries, with access to advanced equipment and specialist colleague support
  • Deliver care aligned with RCVS best practice guidelines, with a focus on patient safety, pain management, and evidence-based medicine
  • Collaborate with a dedicated RVN, PCA, and reception team to deliver a high standard of patient and client care
  • Communicate treatment plans clearly and effectively with clients, ensuring informed consent and continuity of care

What You'll Gain

  • Salary up to £65,000 per annum, depending on experience
  • 5 weeks annual leave plus bank holidays and birthday leave
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid
  • Employer contribution pension scheme
  • Life assurance
  • Enhanced equal family leave
  • E-car salary sacrifice scheme
  • Relocation support available
  • Extensive internal and funded external CPD
  • Access to 7 on-site certificate holders across multiple disciplines — a rare opportunity for day-to-day clinical mentorship and knowledge sharing
  • Exposure to a genuinely diverse caseload including routine wellness, chronic disease management, complex surgical cases, and dentistry
  • Clear pathways for professional development, from further certifications through to branch management and leadership
  • Structured rota: 1:10 full weekends and 1:5 Saturdays, with time back in lieu — designed to protect work-life balance

What's Needed

  • RCVS registration (essential)
  • Competency across first-opinion consultations, surgery, and medicine
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a wider clinical team
  • Commitment to high standards of patient care and evidence-based practice
  • Exposure to dentistry is advantageous, with formal dental training available on-site
