SALARY: £26,278 per annum + Benefits
LOCATION: West Midlands with travel across the Black Country (predominantly Birmingham and Sandwell)
JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent
WORKING HOURS: Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm (37.5 hours per week)
JOB OVERVIEW
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Criminal Justice Support Worker (Women’s Services) with previous experience supporting vulnerable women within criminal justice, probation, safeguarding, homelessness or mental health services.
Working as the Criminal Justice Support Worker (Women’s Services) you will provide trauma-informed support through one-to-one sessions, group work, advocacy and psychosocial interventions for women experiencing multiple disadvantage and complex needs.
As a Criminal Justice Support Worker (Women’s Services) you will work closely with probation services and partner organisations, helping women reduce re-offending, improve wellbeing, access accommodation and engage positively with community support networks.
You will need excellent communication, case management and relationship-building skills together with the ability to work independently across multiple community locations throughout the West Midlands.
DUTIES
Your duties as the Criminal Justice Support Worker (Women’s Services) include:
- Delivering Trauma-Informed Support: Providing one-to-one interventions, therapeutic group work and practical support to women within the criminal justice system
- Managing Caseloads: Holding and maintaining an active caseload, ensuring accurate case notes, risk assessments and support plans are completed
- Supporting Rehabilitation: Assisting women to access accommodation, wellbeing services, education, training, employment and community resources
- Building Positive Relationships: Developing effective working relationships with probation services, partner agencies and external stakeholders
- Providing Advocacy: Accompanying women to appointments and advocating on their behalf where appropriate
- Promoting Engagement: Encouraging women to participate in support programmes and comply with licence or court requirements
- Maintaining Accurate Records: Updating case management systems and ensuring all reporting deadlines and compliance standards are met
- Safeguarding Service Users: Identifying, assessing and responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns and risks
- Working Flexibly across Locations: Travelling across Birmingham and the wider Black Country region to support service delivery
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
- Occupational Requirement under Schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equality Act 2010 applies. The post holder must be female.
- Previous experience working with women experiencing multiple and complex needs
- Experience within criminal justice, probation, homelessness, safeguarding, mental health or support services
- Proven experience managing an active caseload and maintaining confidential records
- Experience delivering group work, psychosocial interventions or structured support sessions
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and trauma-responsive practice
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport quickly
- Ability to complete risk assessments, support planning and case management tasks effectively
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Computer literacy including Outlook, Word and Excel
- Willingness to travel across the West Midlands region
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Eligibility to work in the UK
DESIRABLE
- Relevant qualification in Criminology, Social Work, Probation, Health & Social Care or a related subject
- Experience working alongside probation or criminal justice agencies
- Previous experience supporting women in custody or prison settings
- Knowledge of safeguarding legislation, rehabilitation and effective practice approaches
