We are currently working in partnership with a number of mainstream secondary schools across South Birmingham, who are seeking to appoint SEND Teaching Assistants to join their teams.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), while gaining valuable experience across a variety of school settings. As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will contribute to creating an inclusive learning environment and help pupils build confidence, engagement, and independence in their education.
The Role
Working within secondary school settings, your responsibilities will include:
In-class support: Assisting pupils within mainstream lessons by adapting materials, clarifying instructions, and supporting focus for students with SEN (e.g. autism, dyslexia, ADHD)
Targeted interventions: Delivering tailored support programmes, including literacy, numeracy, and social skills development
Behavioural and emotional support: Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, implementing strategies, and using de-escalation techniques where required
Collaboration and record-keeping: Working closely with SENCOs, teachers, and external specialists to monitor progress, maintain records, and contribute to review meetings
1:1 support and EHCP delivery: Providing dedicated support for pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), ensuring their individual needs are met
Preparation and pastoral care: Assisting with resource preparation and supporting pupil wellbeing during social times and school activities
About You
This role would suit individuals who:
Have a strong understanding of the Key Stage curriculum
Are familiar with a range of teaching methods suitable for SEND learners
Demonstrate a good understanding of child development and learning
Possess excellent communication and active listening skills
Are committed to building positive, supportive relationships with pupils
Can provide individualised support and reassurance to learners
Are adaptable and responsive to changing classroom needs
Can monitor progress and adjust support strategies accordingly
Are confident in providing constructive feedback to support learning
Approach sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism
Are motivated to develop their personal and professional skills
Have basic IT skills, including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

All pay rates quoted are inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This role is advertised as temporary, although opportunities for permanent positions may become available.
