Senior HSEQ Advisor

The Role
At Amey we put safety first always. As a Senior HSQE Advisor at Amey Consulting to primarily support our water sector contracts, you will play a pivotal role in driving the continuous improvement of Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental (HSQE) standards across a range of projects. You will provide expert advice and guidance on HSQE matters to project teams, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards notably BS EN ISO45001, BS EN 14001 and BS EN ISO 9001, while promoting a positive safety culture.
Responsibilities include:
- Be seen to add value to the operations, practice and delivery management teams by delivering a proactive risk and solution-based approach based on engagement.
- Expand your knowledge and competence of other areas of health, safety, environment and assurance to become a multi-skilled member of the HSEQ family.
- Write clear, concise and readily understood reports, procedures and guidance documents, ensuring Group minimum standards and wider governance standards are met.
- Apply technical and specialist knowledge to deliver and manage a risk-based audit & inspection regime as agreed with the sector Business Partner as necessary to identify areas of strength and weakness
- Apply advanced technical or specialist knowledge to advise, observe, inspect and audit
- Support management teams to ensure that projects comply with relevant legislation, industry standards, and Amey Consulting's Integrated Management System (IMS). Advise project teams on HSEQ requirements.
- Analyse information and data to identify trends and causes and propose solutions.
- Support and advise the operations and management teams in identifying the causes of any weaknesses and put into place innovative solutions that will improve performance
- Highlight areas of strength and best practice and facilitate the writing of case studies so that other teams may adopt and benefit from them
- Identify, escalate and initiate (where approved) and facilitate projects to improve performance
- Lead a multi-disciplinary team to investigate complex incidents, identifying their root causes and actions to prevent recurrence
- Support bid and business development activities as required.
- Take ownership and personal responsibility for the resolution of HSEQ issues
- Keep abreast of legislation, developments and best practices within their areas of expertise, highlighting any implications for the business.
- Determine the H&S competencies needed by the operational team, whilst considering the wider Assurance and Environmental Management needs of the business
What you will bring to us:
- Nebosh Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Chartered membership Ideally (or equivalent/working towards Chartership) of a professional safety institution (IOSH, IRSM)
- Investigation qualification or ability to obtain desirable.
- Quality qualification desirable
- Internal/Lead Auditor (ISO 45001)
- CPD record with a relevant professional body.
- Water, Electrical or other relevant industry experience
- Excellent knowledge of the H&S legislation which impacts on the markets the business operates within. (especially CDM safe by design)
- Has led H&S investigations at a senior level with demonstrable knowledge and competence.
